| Marseilles harbour |
Friday, May 10. We are dropped at St. John's Airport by Leo. In the line up we hear that the flight to Heathrow has been cancelled. Peter immediately reached for his cell phone to call Leo to return to the airport. I told the agent we were connecting, St. John's to Heathrow, via Halifax. Problem solved. We had a great flight and landed in London at 6 am Saturday morning. Our flight to Marseilles was at noon, again, a wonderful flight. The weather in Marseilles was sunny, and windy. We rented a Volkswagon Polo, a teensy car, pulled out our GPS, (Peter had already downloaded the maps) and presto, we were in le vieux port of Marseilles within 30 minutes. Of note, we actually drove under the harbor in a tunnel to get to Hotel Sofitel. Our room and the service was wonderful. I opened a window in our room and heard children laughing and a soft breeze. Within minutes, I passed out for 3 hours. Peter decided to go exploring through the old city, hoping that I would join him. When he finally returned, he woke me from my slumber! The restaurant at Hotel Sofitel is worth a try. The food is amazing, with a great seafood selection, and the view is of the old harbor.
